Bangladesh Hindu Community in London Hosts Annual Gita Yajna for World Peace and Harmony
On September 8th, the Bangladesh Hindu Community in London gathered for the annual Gita Yajna, organised by the Bhagavat Gita Research Foundation (BGRF), UK, in collaboration with Sri Sri Geetasangha Bangladesh. Held under the theme of "World Peace and Harmony," this year's event focused on humanity and the growing number of global natural disasters, including cyclones, floods, and wildfires, which continue to devastate millions of lives worldwide.
The Yajna, a sacred fire ritual, was performed with prayers to reduce the impact of these catastrophes, symbolically representing the hope that the blazing fire of Yajna would extinguish the suffering caused by such calamities. Over 300 devotees attended the event, united in their shared desire for peace and healing worldwide. A highlight of the event was the recognition of notable contributors to the Bangladeshi Hindu community and society. The "Beacon of Change Award for Outstanding National & Community Contribution" honoured individuals whose work has significantly impacted their communities, inspiring change and exemplifying leadership. Beacon of Change Award Honourees: (1) Nityananda Chakravorty - President, Geeta Sangha Bangladesh; Editor-in-Chief, International Journal of Hinduism & Philosophy, UK; (2) Himangshu Goswami - Singer and community leader; (3) Gourapada Deb - Religious teacher and spiritual leader; (4) Mrs. Shipra Roy - Singer, philanthropist, and women's advocate; (5) Dr. Rishiram Aryal - University lecturer and community leader; (6) Dr. Don Kahawe – Entrepreneur.
These individuals were celebrated for their tireless efforts in community development, leadership, and humanitarian work. Their contributions have uplifted the community and left a lasting impact on national and international levels.
Additionally, the event honoured young leaders within the Bangladeshi community with the Bengali Youth Change-Maker Award, recognising their exceptional achievements and commitment to cultural heritage, leadership, and positive social change. The main priest of the Gita Yajna made the following remarks at the end of the event to the devotees: "Today, as we gather for this sacred Gita Yajna, we are reminded of the timeless teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, which inspire us to strive for peace, unity, and compassion. In a world that is increasingly affected by natural disasters and human suffering, our duty, as Lord Krishna teaches, is to rise above challenges and act for the greater good of humanity. This year's Yajna is dedicated to those who have endured the devastating impact of cyclones, floods, wildfires, and other calamities. Through this sacred fire, we offer prayers for healing and hope, believing that our collective devotion can bring peace and solace to those in need. I am deeply honoured to witness the recognition of so many individuals Today, from the distinguished recipients of the Beacon of Change Award to the young leaders who embody the spirit of our cultural heritage. Their tireless efforts have strengthened our community and inspired us to serve with greater dedication and love."
