International Conference on Restructuring the Global Economy Concludes at Oxford University


The 13th International Conference on Restructuring of the Global Economy (ROGE)-Promoting sustainability, a prestigious gathering of global scholars and industry experts, successfully concluded on August 6th at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. The conference, jointly hosted by the Centre for Business and Economic Research (CBER) and the Future University in Egypt, attracted over 120 participants from 25 countries, underscoring the event's growing international significance. The took place on the 5-6th August 2024.
A highlight of the conference was the extended keynote address focusing on Bangladesh, showcasing its strides in sustainable ocean economy. Rear Admiral Dr. Muhammad Musa, Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University, Bangladesh, will deliver a keynote address titled "Sustainable Ocean Economy: Bangladesh's Journey on the Roadmap to a Blue Economy." This session aims to illuminate Bangladesh's innovative approaches and future ambitions in harnessing its maritime resources responsibly. The address was appreciated by the international participants. Vice Chancellor Musa told the audience that “For a maritime nation like Bangladesh, harnessing the potential of its "Blue Economy" is of paramount importance. It is crucial that this economic growth is balanced with the preservation of the marine environment. Almost all the world's nations have acknowledged the considerable significance of ocean science in achieving sustainable development and national prosperity. Bangladesh, nestled along the Bay of Bengal, has immense natural resources and biodiversity. For centuries, the sea has been a source of sustenance and livelihood for the people of Bangladesh. Today, as the world grapples with the imperative of sustainable development, Bangladesh stands at the cusp of utilizing its vast maritime potential through a "Blue Economy." The country's blue economy encompasses fisheries, shipping, tourism, renewable energy, and biodiversity conservation.”
His insightful presentation was met with widespread acclaim from attendees, who praised his forward-thinking approach to integrating sustainable practices within the global maritime industry. In recognition of his contributions to the field, the Vice Chancellor was honoured with the prestigious Honorary Fellowship Award from the Centre for Business and Economic Research. This award celebrates his leadership and commitment to advancing research and innovation in maritime sustainability.
Prominent figures gracing the event include Prof. Marianne W. Lewis from the University of Cincinnati, Prof. David M. J. Graves from the UK Centre of Study for Organised Crime, Dr David Holliman from the University of Buckingham; Prof. (Dr) Padmakali Banerjee, Vice Chancellor, IILM University, Gurugram, India; Prof. (Dr.) Gairik Das, Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management, Kolkata, India; Prof. (Dr) Pellegrino Manfra, City University New York, USA; Prof. Lourdes Casanova, Cornell University, USA; Prof. Beheruz N. Sethna is Regents' Professor of Business and President Emeritus of the University of West Georgia (UWG) and other distinguished international scholars. Their diverse expertise drove discussions on global business corporate governance, maritime dimensions, and the overarching theme of globalisation and its threats.
