An actor is a performer who plays a character in a production, while an actress is traditionally a female actor. The term ‘actor’ is increasingly used for all genders due to the women's movement and a move toward gender-neutral language, though some specific awards, like the Oscars, still use ‘actress’. Both terms describe someone who acts in theatre, film, radio or television.
